With how greatly the modern world depends on oil, everyone should read "Oil" by Matthew Yeomans. To only scratch the surface of what Yeomans says in that book, he explains the cost and availability of oil. Essentially, "Oil" will explain oil politics in depth. In a society where everything from food supply to plastic/rubber to economic structures depend on oil, the information in this book is invaluable. It is only ~230 pages, but I find it extremely fast and easy reading. Either way, it would be worth your time to read.
